Akash Inbakumar

Artist member since 2022
Toronto, Ontario

Akash Inbakumar’s practice, based in Tkaronto / Toronto, explores the queering of the human body in relation to material and craft practices. Entering partnerships with multiple mediums, tools and processes, they conceive material-kin. These kin become symbols of the symbiotic relationships that were built during their conception but also gateways to Akash’s futuristic worlding. A future where craft objects play the role of carrying family lineage and storytelling, compared to the colonial west’s nuclear family. Often taking the form of wearables, these objects hope to give the wearer the opportunity to transform into material-human hybrids that can peek into Akash’s dream world.
